All About The Three Stooges 2012 Movie

The Three Stooges 2012 movie is finally set to be released after more than a decade in development hell. The movie is directed by the Farrelly Brothers and co-written by them and Mike Cerrone. It stars Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe Howard, Sean Hayes as Larry Fine and Will Sasso as Curly and is set to be released on April 13, 2012 by 20^th Century Fox. The Three Stooges also boasts a host of celebrity cameos including Jane Lynch, Larry David, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Hudson as well as NBA superstar Dwight Howard and the cast of the reality show Jersey Shore.

Those expectantly awaiting The Three Stooges movie can help the time pass more quickly by viewing some of the classic Stooges shorts on the various volumes of the Three Stooges Collection on DVD released by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Previously, the Three Stooges shorts had been released by RCA Columbia Pictures Home Video on VHS, Beta and Laserdisc formats in thirteen volumes, each of which contained three shorts. These were later re-released by Sony Pictures Entertainment on DVD. However, these releases were criticized by Stooges fans for being poorly organized, as they were based on odd themes (i.e. work, wartime, etc) and featured poor transfers of the shorts.

Classic Comedy: Three Stooges DVD Collections

They may be a comedy trio of the distant past, but the Three Stooges live on in the Three Stooges DVD collections. Many generations are familiar with Moe, Larry, and Curly and their wacky antics in the popular series from the 1930s. The X generation even grew up with the shows on Nickelodeon’s “Nick at Nite” series in the late 80s. Their names are known all over the world by people young and old. It started out as a Vaudeville act in 1922. The Three Stooges made their film debut in 1934 after being signed with Columbia Pictures for one short, titled “Woman Hater.” It wasn’t a big hit until they did their second short, “Punch Drunks,” which was a huge hit and launched a collection of comedy that was unprecedented at the time.

Does the Three Stooges DVD Collection Have All of the Episodes?

Fans of this classic series will be pleased to know that all of the shorts have been released on the Three Stooges DVD. The first in this collection features the first 10 Columbia shorts. Ultimately, one set available consists of 120 shorts on 24 discs that you can watch and recollect the fun laughs and memories of the times when you first saw them. However, the more astute fan of the series knows that the total number of shorts spanning from 1934 to 1975 is 190 altogether. They were released in volumes over a period of time as the various picture corporations holding the rights progressively allowed DVD collections to be produced. Most people are familiar with Moe, Larry, and Curly as the Three Stooges. However, several actors were involved in the trio. For those who are not familiar with all of them, their names were Ted, Moe, Shemp, Larry, Curly, Joe, Curly Joe, and Emil Sitka. These were not all their real names, just their character names with the exception of two. In the same order, their real names were Clarence Ernst Lee Nash (Ted), Moses Harry Horwitz (Moe), Samuel Horwitz (Shemp), Louis Feinberg (Larry), Jerome Lester Horwitz (Curly), Joe Besser (Joe), Joseph Wardell (Curly Joe), and Emil Sitka as himself.
